About the White-tail Deer Hunts
Whitetail deer hunting is truly Adam’s and Len’s passion, for both hunting and guiding. For them, this is a year-round quest. The Barnard Big C Ranch is unique in that it owns over 4500 acres of land. It spreads across 5 towns with multiple tracts that exceed over 1000 acres. Food plots and stands have been placed in areas known to produce large Whitetail Deer.
At the Big C Ranch, we have multiple tracts of land that are in wintering areas. Adam spends a lot of time supplementing the deer’s natural feed with oats and quality grains. (Maine law allows deer to be fed starting December 15th thru to April) This helps to keep the deer on the Ranch healthy. This also attracts migratory deer into the wintering areas on the Big C Ranch. Whitetails will travel from areas as far away as 30 miles to these wintering areas.
Adam and Len spend a lot of time in the woods scouting in the spring for fall rut sign and winter drops drops. Mineral sites are placed out in early spring to help bone and horn growth for the whitetails.
Summer Food Plots
Len and Adam spend an enormous amount of effort planting and maintaining over a dozen food plots. This helps for feed in the summer as well as establishes feed for the deer in the November and the late season December muzzleloading hunt.
Fall Scouting/Game Cameras
Dozens of cameras are placed out to follow whitetail movement and locate optimal areas to hunt. Stands are placed in pre-rut locations and natural funnels.
Rut Hunts/Late Season Muzzleloading
Although there are 4 weeks of rifle hunting and 2 weeks of muzzleloading, the most opportune time recommended by Adam is the rut, which are the early weeks in November. Then it’s muzzleloading season, which is when the deer have switched to heavy feeding and migratory bucks are arriving from miles away at the Big C Ranch food plots.
All necessary licenses are the hunter’s responsibility and proof of a current or previous license or hunter safety course will need to be provided.

There is a $1,000 penalty for harvesting a smaller buck.
